The Lady on the Wall
In Franz Kafka's "The Metamorphosis" Gergor Samsa has a picture of a woman in a hat he cut out from a magazine on the wall. When his mother and sister try to take the picture down from the wall he doesn't let them. Why do you think this picture is so important to him?

Ecotourism: Good or Bad?
1. Read both texts "Tourists in a Fragile Land" and "A Travel Journal" from chapter 5.

Some people believe that ecotourism is a great way for people to increase their awareness of the world and become more careful when protecting the environment. Others say that ecotourism just creates more problems than it does benefits because of damage done to the environment in Antarctica and to the plant and animal life of this remote place. Also, scientific experiments have been known to be ruined by tourists and oil spills devastate the ecosystem.

Tony Hawk and the 900
For Tony Hawk, achieving the 900 was his goal and obsession. He completed the first 900 on July 27, 1999. Are such goals and obsessions healthy for people? If so, how do such goals benefits us? If not, how can such goals be dangerous for us?
